We love hosting workshops for our BayGeo community, but it is a lot of work!
We are opening paid position (3-4 hours of work per week) for a BayGeo Project Assistant, a role that will report to the Education Director and Assistant Education Director and be integral to the success of our education center. For more information of what the role entails and how to apply, click the button below.
Past Workshops
-
Intro to Python for GIS
his online course is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to Python programming for Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The course is perfect for GIS professionals, geographers, and other individuals interested in learning how to use Python to automate GIS workflows and perform spatial analysis. By the end of the course, students will have gained a solid foundation in the Python programming language and will be able to use this knowledge to build custom tools and perform complex analysis in GIS applications.
-
Intermediate Python for GIS
By completing this workshop, students will learn more advanced techniques for process automation and analysis using ESRI products. They will incorporate additional Python libraries into their scripts and have an introduction to Web GIS with ArcGIS Online and the ArcGIS API for Python.
-
Intermediate QGIS
Go beyond the basics of the powerful, free, open-source QGIS software and perform powerful analysis, including spatial interpolation, time series analysis, model building, geocoding, and georeferencing. This certificate includes interactive activities to guide you through essential, intermediate-level GIS skills and time to analyze your chosen data and discover your inner cartographer by creating maps to communicate your results.
-
ArcGIS Online Fundamentals
In this workshop we will explore the powerful applications available on the ArcGIS Online platform – including feature layers, web maps, dashboards, and web apps. We will use real-world datasets and learn the full process of acquiring, publishing, editing, and presenting GIS data in ArcGIS Online.
-
Publishing Web Maps & Processing Spatial Data with JavaScript
This workshop aims to give you the foundation to start developing your own interactive maps and geospatial visualizations for the web by focusing on a few popular and open source tools that you can master and build on as you go. With a few foundational skills and a bit of knowledge, our friendly and energetic instructor will show how you can build your own beautiful maps and visualizations for the web.
This workshop assumes some working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. If you’re new to those languages but are still interested, we can send you some materials to get started ahead of time.
-
Remote Sensing with Google Earth Engine
By completing this workshop, students will learn more advanced techniques for process automation and analysis using ESRI products. They will incorporate additional Python libraries into their scripts and have an introduction to Web GIS with ArcGIS Online and the ArcGIS API for Python.
-
Intro to ArcGIS Pro
We welcome all learners with an interest in geospatial software, whether you are at "square one" or have previous experience. A number of our previous students have tended to be “non-traditional students”, in the sense that they are either recent graduates or are currently in the workforce. Such students take workshops like Intro to ArcGIS Pro to build skills and enhance their career opportunities. Several students have expressed interest in transitioning to GIS-related careers.
-
R for GIS (Part 2)
This workshop will cover intermediate-level skills for working with spatial data in R, including importing and exporting spatial data, geoprocessing, attribute queries and summaries, and spatial queries and joins, building on the topics covered in Part 1. Workshop materials will focus mainly on tidyverse packages, sf, and tmap. Basic mapping will be covered but this is not a cartography workshop. Examples of working with raster data will be shown but not in depth.
